Will a 5.5gen muffler fit a 4th gen?

Is it possible to install a 5.5gen (2k2-2k3) muffler onto a 4th gen? I've been hearing a lot of .orgers say it can be done, but my mechanic had told me it wouldn't fit. The only major difference seems to be the inlet locations (5.5gens have an offset inlet whereas 4th gens have a centre inlet).

Assuming this can be done, how extensive are the modifications to have this done? Thanks guys!

Muffler shop will want $70 to $100 to re-do the connections/piping in Stainless Steel.

Yes it will work. Just your mechanic doesn't know how, or doesn't want to bother. Take it to a muffler place.

Ya it will, i have a 5th gen muffler on mine right now, budget put it on for me for 60 bucks, and i like it , it's nice and quiet

I also have a 5th gen, but are the 5.5 gen mufflers different from the 5th gen? I have no idea.

From what I've read, the only difference is the exhaust tips.

that is correct, 5.0 and 5.5 gen mufflers are identical except for the tips. The 5.0 had that weird looking shroud around the tips.
